Max (he/him & she/her) is a yoga nerd with a deep passion for the practice. His classes are alignment-centered and can range from dynamic to gentle or restorative. His primary influences come from his longtime practices of Anusara, Iyengar, Restorative, Gentle Hatha, Jivamukti and AcroYoga.
Max is a certified Hatha Yoga and Level 2 AcroYoga teacher. He began teaching yoga in Barcelona, and continues to travel to teach throughout the world. Max teaches in English, Spanish and Catalán. Max is an E-RYT 500 teacher and teacher trainer, and taught studio classes at Yoga Garden and Yoga Tree for almost 10 years - teaching Wall Ropes Yoga, Hatha/Alignment-Centered Yoga, Restorative Yoga and Alignment Vinyasa. He was core faculty in the 200-hour and 300-hour teacher training programs at Yoga Garden for over 5 years, and taught in Yoga Tree's 200 hour teacher training as well. Max was also a lead teacher and co-creator of Yoga Garden’s Trauma-Informed Teacher Training. He is currently in mentorship to become an Iyengar Yoga teacher and focuses on the more active and vinyasa-style elements from that lineage. Max's longtime teachers come from a variety of yoga lineages and movement backgrounds: this includes Sean Haleen, Jill Ableson, Judith H. Lasater, Agusta Moore, Abby Tucker, Amanda Moran, Betty Roi, Harvey Deutsch, Ale Ruiz, Jason Nemer, Scott Hobbs, Christine Stein, Brian Hogencamp, Melanie Barber, Silvia Ros and Jordi Martí and is so excited to be a part of the Lotusland Yoga SF teaching team .
Max is also a Bay Area-based psychotherapist, mover and dancer. He is a member of the LGBTQQI++ community and does much of his work in this community. Max specializes in therapy and yoga that celebrate diversity and he is committed to Queer Feminist and Anti-Racist organizing and action. He holds a postgraduate degree in Dance/Movement Therapy from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and a Masters in Counseling Psychology with a focus in Expressive Arts Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies. Max holds his undergraduate degree from U.C. Berkeley.
