Saturday & Sunday 1-6

This advanced training explores the therapeutic use of yoga on the path to healing trauma and enhancing mental health. In this two-day training designed for yoga and meditation teachers, clinicians, educators, direct service providers, and experienced students, we will explore the vital role that the facilitator can play in not only preventing harm but empowering practitioners in regulating trauma symptoms and feeling embodied.

Trauma knows no boundaries regarding age, gender, socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

People are suffering.

Trauma is a common experience for adults and children in American communities, and it is widespread in the lives of people with mental and substance use disorders. For this reason, the need to address trauma is an essential part of effective behavioral health care and an integral part of the healing and recovery process. Can trauma-informed, mindfulness-based yoga improve mental health and mitigate the effects of trauma? The use of evidence-based techniques from yoga and mindfulness to aid in the recovery of PTSD is a promising area of yoga therapy, where research points toward several mechanisms through which yoga can reduce symptoms of PTSD and support those experiencing depression, anxiety, addiction, stress, or overwhelm. As yoga teachers, we must have a foundational understanding of how we can support practitioners on their healing journey.

Workshop Highlights:
• Understanding Trauma: Explore the science and psychology of trauma, gaining insights into how it impacts the mind and body.
• Mindfulness in Healing: Learn how mindfulness practices can promote resilience, self- regulation, and emotional well-being.
• Safe and Inclusive Yoga: Understand the principles of trauma-sensitive yoga and how to modify asanas (poses), breath practices, meditation, and sequences for diverse populations.
• Creating a Healing Environment: Develop the skills to foster trust, safety, and empowerment in your yoga classes.
• Self-Care for Teachers: Discover how to prioritize self-care and prevent burnout as a yoga teacher working with trauma-sensitive populations.
• Practical Exercises: Engage in hands-on practice, including mindfulness and meditation techniques suitable for trauma survivors.
• Case Studies: Analyze real-life scenarios and discuss best practices for handling sensitive situations in class or client sessions.
